That Time of the Year

Do you have a special celestial object you look forward to seeing?

Maybe a planet, or constellation or star.  My guitar teacher likes M104.

What do you miss when it’s gone?  What do you yearn to see again?  What is your favorite object?

I saw mine for the first time this season just this morning.  As I went out to get the paper at 5, staying in the shadow made by that awful LED street light across the way, I could see the Hunter on his side slowly rising in the east.

The first constellation I learned has returned.  A variable star in the armpit has returned.  The bright foot has returned.  The mysterious and partly hidden birthplace of stars has returned. The three belt stars have returned.

Welcome back, mighty Orion.  You’ve been missed.
